Gokaiger. Is. Badass. Period. Let's dive in and see why, eh?
Theme Song: [link]
Catchy as heck and fun, too! Too bad I can't one with the actual opening footage. XD Let's go let's Go-Kaiger, go go let's go let's... 9/10
Other Music: Since this is live action, no animation rate. The music is all pretty great, and I commend whoever composed it 9/10
Film quality: Pretty good... I guess. After all, I don't know much about filming... why is this Here? Oh, right, Live action... it's good but I can't really rate it properly except in comparison to other Super Sentai series. In that regard, 10/10- Everything looks good ^^
Scenery: It's Japan- No green screen as far as I can tell! So things look veeeeery good. Yup. While it isn't always impressive, it doesn't always have to be. The CGI looks good too. 9/10
Now the characters! These are all awesome in their own right.
Captain Marvelous/Gokai Red- Badass jerk with a heart of gold. He's so full of badassery that he could probably defeat a few monsters of the week by himself if he really wanted to. He's so badass that he installs fear into the EMPEROR of the UNIVERSE. Did I mention he's badass? Oh, he's also a big eater.
Joe Gibken/Gokai Blue: Also Badass, and angsty, too! Formally an agent of the Zangyack Empire. Also a master swordsman who likes to dual-wield and has his best friend and teacher turned into a cyborg. Poor guy.
Luka Milfy/Gokai Yellow: Slightly less badass than the previous two, but still badass. She's a greedy chick who's all about the money, at least at first. She almost tries to beat up the good captain over taking her money, but she isn't dumb enough to go against him, further cementing his badassery. Also his a sister-like relationship with Ahim. She can also dual wield swords AND use wire works to make improbable sword feats.
Don "Doc" Dogoir/Gokai Green: Butt Monkey mechanic and complete loser. Which makes him absolutely hilarious. Most of the comedy in the show is centered around his being a loser, though in his defense he does get stronger as the series progresses... sort of. Throughout the show he always fights using goofy slapstick antics. Can also dual wield guns for lulz.
Ahim De Famille/Gokai Pink: A Princess who's as sweet as ice cream (usually) and is the nicest of the bunch. She never really gets ship teased with anyone (surprisingly) and she's also the last of her people- well, not really. Her planet was destroyed, but SOME of her people do survive, but her new Queen status still has no real meaning since the planet's gone and her "subjects" are too far away and apart to rule over anyway. She also has badass moments and is not a Mary Sue (thank god)
Gai Ikari/Gokai Silver: A hyperactive Super Sentai fanboy prone to spaz attacks, fangasms, stopping to ask for autographs, and all kinds of weird crap- He works well with Don and the two are great comedic foil for each other, making each other's antics even funnier or even more surreal. Wields a trident that can become a gun that can become an anchor-tipped spear. Also has a super mode calling on the previous 15 6th rangers.
Navi: The Gokaiger's talking robot parrot that is slightly psychic and even less appreciated than Doc. Doesn't get any development, but he's Reeeeeally fun.
Waltz Gil: Prince of the Zangyack and a complete moron who is pretty much a wimp. Really feminine and funny too. He was absolutely pathetic as the first main villain, but so much fun to watch.
Barizorg: A cyborg programmed to be completely loyal to Waltz Gil. Also formerly Joe's Friend/teacher Cid, not that he remembers that.
Insarn: Mad scientist chick who is always responsible for making monsters grow.
Damaras: The quiet servant and body guard of Waltz Gil. Also the strongest man in the universe. A title he lives up to!
Basco: A dangerously genre savvy troll with chronic backstabbing disorder. Yup.
Jealoushido (sp?): Not a main villain, just a harmless monster of the week who appears twice, and both of his appearances are seriously weird. Actually pretty powerful.
Ackdos Gil: The Emperor of the Universe. Dark, brooding, and competent, he stands at the top of the Zangyack Empire as a force to be reckoned with... As you can imagine, authority = asskicking. He even comes with a pair of almost literal dragons!
The rest: Several Sentai rangers return in this momentous 35-year anniversary special complete with appearances by the first red ranger ever. Heck yes.
These characters are awesome and I love them all. 10/10
Story: This is the best part. The world is under attack by the dreaded Zangyack Empire, but luckily, the 34 Super Sentai teams are there to stop them. With an army numbering over 150 rangers, it's time to kick some ass. The ensuing scene is full of so much awesome that it can't possibly be described properly, and ends when all of them sacrifice their powers to stop the invasion. A year (?) later, a group of Pirates have inherited the powers of the previous 34 teams as well as gained their own. With the power to henshin into past heroes, the Gokaigers challenge the Zangyack Empire and its insanely big forces and proceed to kick ass for 52 (I think) episodes of extreme badassery, coolness, and awesomeness. Can you ASK for a better setup? This is awesomeness- just add pirates, oh wait, they did that for you! Oh, and ninjas show up as well just to let you know that this is something you can't miss. 11/10
Overall: I LOVE THIS SHOW. Someone tell me where I can relive the awesomeness, please! I want to see some Badass Pirates kick ass again! 9.5/10 for a show full of almost pure badassery.
